Tsao Chin

The famous historical hero was Tsao Chin, the mayor of Fengshan County in Ching Dynasty.

He worked hard and took good care of residents during his five-year term (1837-1841). He dug a water passage, a headrace, and channeled water from Chiu-Chu Pond and thousands of hectares offields lacking of water benefited from it. This allowed two harvests a yearinstead of one harvest a year. The residents were all live in harmony, andthat explained why the headrace was called "Tsao-Kung Ditch".

He died in Ho-Nan Province in 1849. In order to show their appreciation, the residents built "Tsang-Kung Shrine" in Feng-Yi Academy, which sits next to the county government, in 1860. They also hung a tablet to tell others how great he was! The shrine now sits on Tsau-Kung Rd. in Fengshan City.
