The
second-class historic spot-Lungshan Temple |
|
The correct time when Lung-Shan Temple was built is not officially
recorded in the history book. According to Ching Dynasty the commissioner
named Li,Pi -Yu who wrote “The History of Fengshan County” in 1719,
there’s no information about Lung-Shan Temple. The Fengshan County
government is located in the old city—Hsing-Lung Li, Tsoying Kaohsiung.
At the time of Emperor Kang-His, Chu,Yi-Kuei started to rise in rebellion.
The Fengshan City was once called “Hsia-Li-Po Street”, and the new
city was not built and the county government was not moved to Hsia-Li-Po
Street until 1788. |

Among all the horizontal boards in Lung-Shan Temple, one which
was inscribed with four Chinese Characters—“Nan Yun Tung Chao”(
南雲東照), given by someone in 1760 , the time
of ” Emperor Chien-Lung”. According to that, we can figure out the
Lung-Shan Temple was completely finished then. However, many evidences
shows that Lung-Shan Temple had nearly 300 years history. The Lung-Shan
Temple has been repaired and rebuilt in 1765, 1807, 1835, 1871, 1907,
and it was added two rooms in 1933, and also the front palace and
the roof were rebuilt. After all this, the final repairing in 1987
gives Lung-Shan Temple a new look. |

Lung-Shan Temple is ranked as the country’s second-class historic
spot because the traditional temple construction is kept according
to its original design. For example, clay sculptures, sculpture carvings
and colored drawing. And the sight is so grand that it becomes a historic
spot and is as famous as the Lung-Shan Temple in Lukang and Lung-Shan
Temple in Taipei. If you come to Fengshan, it is one of the scenic
spots that visitors cannot miss.
