民間故事
The
Legend of the Winding Mountain Range in Chih Shan Region |
|
Chih Shan Region is lined with rugged and rolling hills. According
to the legend, about two hundred years ago in the Ching Dynasty, a
geomancer from China told the inhabitants that the whole region was
in the shape of a dragon, which suggested the emergence of emperors
from this area. In order to repay the hospitality of the villagers,
the geomancer instructed them to dig two “dragon-eyed wells,” from
which cool and sweet water would be found and the water is.

According to Wu-hsiung Wu, one of the seniors in this area, a
hill named Da Shan Mu (the Great Mother Mountain) is in the neighborhood
of the present laboratory of tropical horticulture in Feng Shan. If
an emperor emerges from Chih Shan, the gold bars in the Da Shan Mu
Hill will be unearthed, serving as the government money. The seniors
in the community have had deep faith in the legend, and they are still
having a vivid description of it.

However, long years have passed and few of the inhabitants are
promoted to a higher position either in the army or in the government,
let alone an emperor who can glorify this area. Some said that the
geomantic system has been destroyed owing to the digging of the ditch
(the so-called dragon-throat den) by Tsao Kung (Tsao Chin), which
is now situated in front of Wen Shan Junior High School. On the other
hand, if Tsao Kung had not constructed the ditch, the farmlands in
this area would not have been properly irrigated and enjoyed the reputation
of the granary in Southern Taiwan. |
