The
remaining trace of county town |

In Tao-Kuang Eighteenth Year in Ching Dynasty(1838A.D.)Tsang
Chin, the head of county, built six stands of batteries at the corner
of the county town. There were one in the northeast and one in the
southwest, and two in the southeast and northwest respectively. Now
only Ping-Cheng Battery, Hsun-Feng Battery, and Cheng-Len Battery
still stand. |

Ping-Cheng Battery

Ping-Cheng Battery lays at the west of the county town , behind
the Tsau-Kung Temple, facing the westside, having the fosse outside
and ladders lead to the battery’s oblong balcony. There’s a granite
tablet embedded in the wall with ” Ping-Cheng” inscribed on it. |

Hsun-Feng Battery

Hsun-Feng Battery lays at the southeast of the county town, at
the back of the Lun-Shan Temple. It’s a long arc, facing the eastside,
next to the influx of the Fengshan Stream and the southside trench.
Only the wall of Lao-Ku stone(咾咕石) was kept. The battery was
restored in 1999, looks magnificent. The wall which faced inside,
has a granite tablet inlaid with the picture of two books and scrolls
made of clay and the Chinese characters ” Hsun-Feng” inscribed on
it.

Cheng-Len Battery

Cheng-Len
Battery was located near the back gate of the Fengshan Elementary
School, at the southwest corner of Fengshan County town. Its shape
is like a irregular octagon. The wall was built with mixed layers
of the pebble and the Lao-Ku stone(咾咕石), having a granite tablet
inscribed the words ”Cheng-Len” on it.
