The
third-class historic spot─Tung Pien Gate |
|
To distinguish the ruins in Fengshan and in Kaohsiung, we called
the ruins New City in Fengshan. Tung-Pien Gate and Tung-Fu Bridge
in New City, i.e. Fengshan City, are kept until now. And the gate
and the bridge served as the entrance to the city and the passage
for the outsiders from east of Fengshan City until July 13 2001.

If you want
to experience how the ancients felt about going out and coming in
the gate or walking through the old bridge, you can visit here. But
it's too bad that a typhoon brought such powerful rain that it destroyed
the bridge's piers. And it needs rebuilding. |

Among six city gates of Fengshan New City, the little east gate,
Tung-Pien Gate, is the only one kept. There're three Chinese characters
on the tablet “ Tung- Pien Gate” inscribed in 1839. The tablet of
the gate was made of granite. The upper part of outside the passage
was made of marble and embedded by the county government when the
gate was repaired. The gate is rectangle. The width of the gate is
ten point eight meters, and the depth is seven meters. The direction
of the gate is facing east, and the base is four point three meters
height. The material of arching is brick and the skewback of the arch
was made of stone. The wall of outside gate's material is Lao-Ku Stone(咾咕石). |

“Tung-Pien
Gate” faces the Fengshan Stream (It was called Tung-Men River before.).
Passing the “Tung-Fu Bridge” can reach the riverbank in front of
us. It's not only a route of “Blacksmith Street”, but also an important
passageway to the “Pingtung City”. |
