Fengshan boasts its three-hundred-year history in the south of
Taiwan since the Ming Dynasty. It was the center of county in Ching
Dynasty where the country government was located. It was also known
as one of the two oldest cities at the southern Taiwan. Fengshan has
been the cultural center. In Ching Dynasty, the Feng-Yi Academy of
Classical Learning, which was the first formal school in the south
of Taiwan built in 1814 A.D., offered the education and boarding.

Moreover, Military Academy was moved from China to Fengshan in
1950. Besides its importance in military, agriculture is still the
major economic activity in Fengshan City. The canal, also called as
Tsang -Kung-Tsun, built by Tsao Chin helped with the irrigation and
made the harvest doubled. Fengshan City was an important place of
rice production back to the farming times. At present, Fengshan is
a capital of Kaohsung County. This makes Fengshan the political, economical,
industrials, commercial, and financial center in Kaohsiung County.
