Cheng-Huang Temple

Cheng-Huang Temple is located west to Feng-Yi Academy of Classical Learning, constructed in A.D. 1800, by county magistrate Li, Pi-Yu. The legend has it that the county magistrate was to superintend all the things in this world, but there was a god called Cheng-Huang from the Hades judging the good and evil in people’s heart. The Cheng-Huang Temple in Fengshan County was constructed in the old city at first. The Lin, Shuang-Wen incident and his partner Zhuang, Da-Tong attacked the Old City in Tsaoying, and the county magistrate Tang, Da-Kui and his colleague died in the course of performing their duty. So the city was moved to the New City, now called Fengshan City. When Wu, Zhao- Lin, the county magistrate, built Cheng-Huang Temple in new city, he erected a tablet in the temple with four Chinese characters “Chung Chie Liu Fan” (忠節流芳)which means that the act of loyalty leave a fragrant track in history, in order to remember Tang, Da-Kui and his colleague. Now in the Cheng-Huang Temple, this tablet is of greatest historical value.
